To influence I must first follow

Image
When I first joined social media, I wanted to sway people to my way of thinking. I wanted them to support my political ideas, my favorite soccer team Kaizer Chiefs, and my business. I don't think I was very successful, but social media did help me share my views with my network. I didn't understand why my attempts to influence others weren't more successful, but I now realize that if I had been, the impact would have been superficial and short-lived. That's not what the Creator had in mind for me. Eternal influence The kind of influence the Creator wants me to have is eternal because this life is just a shadow of the real thing, which is the Kingdom of God. To have eternal influence, I need to be in the Kingdom of God. That's the first step. The second step is to follow in the footsteps of the one who rules the Kingdom of God. So, if I want to influence others for a future that goes beyond this life, I need to be a follower of Jesus Christ so that He may be seen thr...

My setback is a setup

Image
Recently, I shared my financial challenges with a friend. He remarked that many people are struggling financially these days. I am unsure whether he was being truthful or simply trying to make me feel better. I was unable to discuss the matter in depth, so I kept our conversation general. This subject is personal to me, as it has been a lifelong struggle that worsened when I began my walk with Jesus Christ. I have reflected deeply on this, as my journey has set me back financially and in other ways. However, as I have delved deeper into the Bible, I have realized that I should have expected this, as it is a common theme throughout scripture. Setback to be set up Jesus Christ was given all authority in the seen and unseen realms, but he was crucified before he assumed his authority. This demonstrates to me that in order to be an overcomer in the Kingdom of God, I must go through what Jesus, went through. At one point, it seemed like he was set back, but he was actually being set up to a...

Demolished to make way for the new

Image
I was raised to believe that obeying the Bible would lead to a good life as a result I thought that following God's word would solve all my problems, but my personal experience has been the opposite. When I started consciously obeying the Bible, my life fell apart.  Things went downhill fast, and I was discouraged and confused because my expectations weren't met. Nobody told me that creating a good life is only half the story when it comes to obeying the Word of God. Double edged sword The Bible is a double-edged sword. There are both good and bad consequences to obeying it. The good consequence is that it has allowed me to create a new life built on the foundation of Jesus Christ. The bad consequence is that, while a new life is being created, all aspects of my life that were built outside the Kingdom of God are being demolished. My old life is being destroyed to make way for the new life that is built on the solid foundation of the Kingdom of God. This process is not without ...

My life experience on earth can be permanent

Image
When I was younger, I learned through New Age teachings that everything is temporary: emotions, thoughts, people, and scenery. I shouldn't get attached to anything; I should just go with the flow. This perspective on life made sense to me, and I tried to apply it to my own life. But it was easier said than done. I struggled with it because even though it made sense, I desperately needed something to hold on to when life didn't go my way. To my surprise, when I started my journey of faith in Jesus Christ, I learned that the Bible also encourages me not to get attached to this life on earth, because it is temporary. I learned later that although the Bible encourages a similar perspective on life on earth, it goes further than New Age teachings. The Bible points me to a permanent life that I should hold on to. Eternal Life The Bible has discouraged me from placing too much emphasis on the value of life on earth. Instead, it encourages me to align myself with a life that will last ...

True cleansing starts within

Image
In my quest to become who I was created to be, it was brought to my attention that I must undergo a process of cleansing. Cleansing rituals are common among religious people, new agers, and those who practice African spirituality. These rituals vary depending on the belief system, but they are all initiated from the outside and focus on the physical. As I was considering which of these cleansing rituals would align me with the will of the Creator, I learned through the Bible about another type of cleansing that is different from all others because it is initiated from the inside before it manifests on the outside. Biblical Cleansing Biblical cleansing is required for me to become who I was created to be because I am sinful by nature and my desires are by default hostile to the will of the Creator. This cleansing aims to restore in me a pure heart by cleansing my innermost being, transforming me from the inside out. The cleansing initiated from the outside is superficial and of temporar...

My adversity stems from obedience

Image
The argument that Christianity is anti-African because it prohibits African spirituality practices is one that I have heard many times. However, as I have continued on my own journey of faith, I have come to realize that there is more to the commandment than meets the eye. It is too simplistic to conclude that Christianity is against Africans. In African Spirituality adversity is a sign of disobedience but in Christianity adversity could be a sign of obedience. Whenever God intends to bring his people in alignment with his will he allows adversity in their lives by breaking their will, because by default the will of human beings is hostile to his will. God allows adversity When I choose to explore the spiritual realm as prescribed in the Bible, the process of aligning my will with God's will began. I could either fight this, in which case I will never be who God created me to be, or I could cooperate with it and experience God's power on a personal level.. The commandment agains...

Trust aligned me with true wisdom

Image
Wisdom is the capacity to judge rightly in matters relating to life and conduct. Confucius, a Chinese philosopher, recommends three ways to acquire wisdom. He said, “By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.” I agree that this is a sensible recommendation when seeking human wisdom. However, I am on a journey of aligning my life with wisdom that is of a higher form than human wisdom. I believe that human wisdom has failed me, and I am now seeking wisdom that comes from above . I believe that this recommendation will not apply to my journey, as I am seeking wisdom that is beyond human understanding. Highest form of wisdom To align myself with the highest form of wisdom, I had to enter the spiritual realm where Jesus Christ reigns supreme. In this spiritual realm, alignment with wisdom is the result of putting all my trust in Jesus Christ rather than relying on human...

I found my calling when I accepted my weakness

Image
It is often said that you should find what you are good at in order to find your calling. However, I have found this to be confusing, as I have loved doing different things at different stages of my life. I found my calling when I accepted my weaknesses, which is the opposite of what I have been taught all my life. When I realized that I am weak against the evil spiritual forces that are fighting for my attention, I humbled myself before the Creator and put my full trust in Him. Through this act of humility, He revealed my calling to me, which is something that I am not good at. However, it is now my responsibility to explore all available opportunities to improve my skills so that I can be good at it. Contrary to popular belief, my calling was revealed to me when I accepted my weaknesses and humbled myself before the Lord. I believe that this is the true path to finding your calling in life.

Salvation enabled my spiritual awakening

Image
I was raised a Christian but as I grew up I thought Christianity had a narrow lens through which to interpret humanity's relationship to the great spiritual experience , and this is the reason I dabbled in New Age beliefs where I was taught practices like meditation and being one with nature to help my spiritual awakening. Spiritual Awakening is a call to higher consciousness and deeper mental awareness. The process of spiritual awakening brings about personal transformation and a shift in one’s worldview. When someone goes through a spiritual awakening they experience a shift in their mental framework. When I started applying my Christian faith through a relationship with the Creator rather than religion I then learnt that contrary to my previous beliefs there was no need for me to dabble into New Age beliefs and practices because when Christianity is applied as prescribed by the Scriptures it leads to spiritual awakening. Salvation brings spiritual enlightenment When I decided to...
