LIFE LESSON: Embrace obstacles when on a journey towards extraordinary

I started taking Formula 1 seriously when Lewis Hamilton came on the scene, he was the underdog at the time with a lot of voices rooting for him because he was disrupting the status quo as the first black F1 driver. When he started winning multiple championships this dynamic changed, a lot more voices against him came to the fore. His talent was now in question with many people suggesting he is not that talented he is just lucky to be in a good car.

Here in South Africa when Patrice Motsepe took over the Mamelodi Sundowns football team there was a lot of support for him and his team because he had enough financial muscle to disrupt the dominance of local football from Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. Mamelodi Sundowns have now exceeded the expectations of everyone they are now rewriting a lot of records but the tide has turned against them, they are now being accused of destroying local football.

When I consider both these stories, I conclude that I should always be on the look out for obstacles because it does not matter where I am or what I achieve, obstacles will find me. But the Bible says obstacles are very important when embarking on a journey to the extraordinary, I should embrace them.

The Creator’s purpose for our lives is to create something through us that puts his glory on display to influence others towards him, for this to succeed we need true knowledge about the source of power behind our life assignment. True knowledge about the source of power, our Creator, is only attained when we have exhausted our own power and resources, in seasons when nothing goes our way.

As human beings we are by default prone to pride when things go our way. Pride stops us from achieving the goal of being extraordinary the Creator’s way because he frowns on the proud. Therefore in order to keep us humble we must accept haters that rise up during our seasons of success because they keep us humble and remind us that it is not in our finite strength that we are winning.

The journey towards the extraordinary requires that I embrace all seasons that come my way.
