LIFE LESSON: God makes the most out of an empty vessel

An empty vessel makes the most noise is a very popular proverb which means those with the least wisdom or knowledge are always the most talkative.

God created us in his image so that we can be the vessels through which his purpose on the earth is fulfilled. Empty vessels are most preferred for God’s purpose on the earth. This does not mean God prefers us when we are most talkative without wisdom. It actually means the opposite..

SELFISH DESIRES

God’s plan for us after Salvation is that we can be his vessels that display his glory by impacting the lives of others. This is only possible when we sacrifice our own desires for the benefit of others i.e. becoming a living sacrifice.

Sacrificing our own desires for the benefit of others is not our default setting, we are born selfish with only one goal in mind to prioritize our selfish desires above everything else. The bible tells us that our selfish desires are hostile to the will of God, it is therefore necessary for God to take us through a process that will empty us of our selfish desires because we are not naturally inclined to do this on our own.

This process starts at Salvation where God fills us up with his Spirit and when we make Jesus the Lord of our lives he then starts a process to make us who he had intended us to be by emptying us out of our selfish desires. The details of the process are unique to an individual but the generic process was demonstrated to us by Jesus Christ on the cross. Our selfish desires are emptied from us through persecution, death and then resurrection where we are resurrected as the empty vessels that can be used to fulfill God’s purpose in the world.

We will never be fully emptied out of our selfish desires but this is an ongoing process that those who have made Jesus Christ their Lord will go through as long as they are still on earth.

When we allow God’s process to empty us of our selfish desires we position ourselves to be used by God to fulfill his purpose on the earth. Therefore an empty vessels is well positioned to fulfill God’s purpose in the world
