LIFE LESSON: Seek spiritual connection through the CREATOR

So DJ Sbu made the trends lists recently not about his music or his businesses but because of the spiritual advice he was sharing with those who follow him. If you don't know what I am talking about, let me explain. DJ Sbu shared a video where he says hugging a tree or walking barefoot gives him a spiritual connection and he advises everyone to do the same daily. In the video his appearance has also changed. He is spotting dreadlocks and a scrubby looking beard it seems his new look has been influenced by this spiritual journey.


It is possible that this is a marketing stunt by DJ Sbu given his record I would not put this past him. Be that as it may, response to this is varied; some say he has gone crazy, others believe he is spiritually enlightened. 


Whether DJ Sbu is pulling a marketing stunt or not only time will tell but the fact is there are people who believe that hugging trees can bring them spiritual enlightenment  


I can relate to these people because I have also been on a journey of seeking spiritual connection but my journey led me to a different life lesson.

The source of life

The search for spiritual connection is actually a search to connect with something greater than ourselves. In other words we want to connect with the source of life. The conclusion that my search has led me to is that God is the source of life and  it made sense that if God is the source of life  and through the Bible I am learning the following lessons:



  1. God wants us to be spiritually enlightened

God is a Spiritual Being and he wants to commune with us so he wants us to be spiritually enlightened so we can commune with him. When we connect with him through his Son Jesus Christ he gives us his Spirit (Holy Spirit) to connect with our spirit.


Humans are disobedient by nature; this is the reason  Adam and Eve were kicked out of the garden of Eden; they did not obey God’s simple instruction not to eat from the tree of knowledge. This disobedience continues even today, God has given us instructions how to get to him i.e. through Jesus Christ but we continue to seek other ways to connect to him. We want to connect with the Creator through created things i.e. hugging trees.


  1. There are other spiritual beings.

There are other spiritual beings in the spiritual realm but Jesus Christ who has been given all the power by God is superior to them. These other spiritual beings were created by God but have rebelled against God and they have one role and that is to take us away from God. So when we seek spiritual enlightenment without Jesus we are led to these other forces who will not lead us to God but will lead us to other created things of God i.e. trees. 


Seeking spiritual enlightenment without Jesus Christ does not lead to God, Jesus is the ONLY door that leads to God.


  1. There is a battle for our souls

A human being is Spirit, Soul and Body.The Spirit influences the soul, the Soul influences the body and the Body uses the influence from the soul to interact with human beings and other God’s creations. When we seek spiritual connection God’s way i.e. through Jesus Christ we receive God’s Spirit (Holy Spirit) to influence our spirit so that  our souls can be influenced to do the will of God.


These other spiritual beings whose aim is to lead us away from God are in a battle with God to influence our souls and when we seek spiritual enlightenment without Jesus Christ we actually open a door to them to lead us astray so ultimately we have to make a choice and this is how God designed it as it would not be love if God forced us into a relationship with him.


So the life lesson for me is that I must seek spiritual connection through the CREATOR and not through his creation.

LIFE LESSON: Religion enables false teachings

We have all heard or seen people being abused in the name of God. People have been made to drink petrol or eat snakes or in some instances they have been robbed of their hard earned money all in the name of God. Why would God allow this to happen is a question I have asked myself but never took it further and in fact I chose to put it off my mind. So when it was posed directly to me “ Why does God allow our people to be abused in his name” I realized that I can no longer put it off. I need to find answers to this question. TESTIMONY : Dont pray hard, pray consistently

Recently while searching for accommodation I went through 3 deals which all fell through at the last minute. After the 3rd deal fell through a friend asked me whether I have been praying and I said yes, and she advised me to pray harder. Pray hard is a phrase we commonly use, I have used this phrase or thought of it because of the belief that the harder I pray the more likely that God will fulfill my expectations. This belief is based on the assumption that God exists to fulfill my plans but in truth I exist to fulfill God’s plan on the earth. A plan that is meant to impact the lives of others and benefit me. No is also an answer  On the 4th attempt to find accommodation a deal was finally sealed.
